############################################################### # # # The matter of privacy on the modern internet # # and why it's just a distant dream # # # # Written by action # ############################################################### You can hear a lot of people rambling about privacy on the net these days; that it's extremely important and you need to do everything you can to preserve it. Well, don't. Let's picture a normal guy. He works a 9 to 5 job, has M$oft Windows 10 on his PC, loves Google, uses Facebook daily. We know Google collects your data. We know Facebook does it as well. We know Micro$oft does it too, and that their OS is pure bloatware. Well, the guy is STILL more secure than your average privacy freak. How? The answer is simple. He blended in. He doesn't do much, just generates them useless data that they use to sell him products. The intelligence services don't care about him. At the end of the day, none of them really care. Now let's picture the aforementioned privacy freak. He uses a (GNU)Linux distro. He tunnels everything through a VPN. Using a browser other than Tor or heavily modified Firefox? Please. Adblock always on, Javascript disabled. He prepared himself well, but in doing so, he became more vulnerable. The second he was spotted on a Linux distro, the second he downloaded that VPN he was put on a list. Of course they will focus on someone like him. All those precautions must mean he has something to hide, right? You see, on the internet, you are either completely anonymous, part of the crowd, or stick out like a sore thumb. To be completely anonymous on the internet, you will have to give up many services. The big companies made it impractical so that you eventually just give up. So what should you do then? I honestly don't know. You don't really have much of a choice. Choose your own path. Blend in, or go full rambo and disappear completely from the face of the internet. Maybe things will change. There are activists, there are people that want a more private internet. But as I see it, things will just get worse from here. Fight the botnet. Don't get assimilated! At the end of the day, maybe it's all just fine. Maybe their intentions are moral and completely justified. Maybe. ############################################################## 1/5/2018. This is my first article, and I'm not sure # how it turned out. I tried to get my opinions through, but # I feel like I failed. We'll see. # ##############################################################
